Inspiration, I think, is important when doing anything art related. Afterall, if you are not inspired to do something, chances are its not going to come out as great as it should. I find inspiration in a lot of things but my favorite mediums are music, history, fashion/photography, other styles of art, and life itself. When I listen to music, images go through my head like a music video or one specific image will come to mind, the music also sets the mood of my images as I will actually listen to the same song or set of songs while doing a piece of artwork. In “A Drop of Water” (pictured), I listened to chinese folk music non-stop every time I worked on it, this helped inspire me to keep with the soft, oriental design that I really wanted for this piece. Life is such a huge inspiration because I do draw a lot of my expression and personalities for my characters from myself or the people around me.I also have generalized inspiration from life just happening as I see it on programs or in the news, often times look at the psychology of it all to help create problems and vices for my characters. This helps make them real and understandable to my readers, as a reader can look at a character and feel some sort of empathy or similar feeling to the character.
I also have a weakness for good photography, it can be an inspiration to see beautiful scenery, models, fashion, and other scenes for photos done well. An eye of one artist can be percieved differently by another but it can still create the same emotions and thoughts, creating inspiration. I think that if I help inspire even just one artist, it would be something great because that means my images have reached out and touched someone and that is my focus for all my art, to come alive and to create feelings and thoughts for all who see them. I guess in a way, that goal too, could be considered one of my biggest inspirations for drawing itself.
