“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.” – Dorothy Parker
Science cannot exist without curiosity, just like art cannot exist without imagination. After all, isn’t science the art of discovering “how stuff works”?
Since 1998, the aptly named website HowStuffWorks.com has existed to inform folks with a healthy affliction for curiosity about the technical aspects of topics as varied as sword-swallowing, UPC barcodes, lithography, fog machines, subways, 3D glasses, tattooing, etc….
Founded by North Carolina State University computer science professor Marshall Brain, HowStuffWorks.com has been owned and operated by Convex Group, the Atlanta-based founders of WebMD.com, since 2002. To date, HowStuffWorks.com has published two hardcover coffee table books, and two paperbacks, featuring content from the website archives.
