Just one of our favorite things…an indie documentary film following musicians around the USA called “Map the Music”. These filmmakers went on tour and spent some time with some other brilliant musicians and friends such as Zoe Keating, Kate Havnevik, Rachael Yamagata, and Charlotte Martin, as well as Cary Brothers, Levi Weaver, and Guy Sigsworth of Frou Frou. They also spoke with various music producers, teachers, managers, fans, musical therapists, and DJs such as Nic Harcourt of KCRW.
The documentary focuses on what music means to people. The project attempts to explain how music helps us survive in not only difficult times, but in everyday life. There is a great balance of fan and artist interviews and backstage, studio, and live performance footage. The film is a collaboration between Lisa Tsaur and Samantha Hale, two women who are profoundly passionate about music, its subculture and how it is a universal medium that brings people together. The documentary was written by samantha hale and edited by Lisa Tsaur.
Both women went all over to gather first-hand footage and experience from independent musicians. Some make it to mainstream and some have a cult following, but their impact is the same whether stardom finds their harmonies or not.
