Water is the foundation for life. Without water, we would not inhabit this planet. Brazilian designer Rafael Morgan physically illustrates the complexity of light and water to induce the presence of energy through the molecules that create our existence and how we interact and use those precious resources.
Rafael explains his project: “This wall-mounted lighting element illuminates the custom-molded polycarbonate bulb with an embedded, dimmable LED in the faucet, which is intuitively controlled by the tap — the more you twist, the more light you get — which also is a good way to contextualize energy use (though at a greatly reduced rate, compared to an incandescent version of the same design.)” The use of LED is symbolic for the simple fact that LED’s illuminate for substantially longer periods that wasteful lightbulbs of old. The design won the Third Prize in the Bright LED international design competition, by design boom and is in the works to be produced by Dark in 2008.
Morgan describes himself as an industrial designer with simplistic, yet deliciously bare designs are embedded with a tale to tell. His ambitious philosophy revolves around objects with great design should speak for themselves. He is a down to earth guy that threatens Brazilian Voodoo for copyright infringement.
