As we kick off the new year it’s exciting to see what the “community approved”, New Media mavens are predicting for the future of the music industry. One thing is for certain, no one knows for sure what will happen, but everyone knows that cataclysmic change is on the horizon. Imagine if the dinosaurs knew that a six mile wide meteor was approaching the Earth at light speed. It certainly seems that a multi-billion dollar recording industry is now shopping for biodomes and survival provisions to get through the impending reincarnation of the world they once ruled.
Fortunately for artists and fans, this renaissance means…well just that, a rebirth of opportunity. It’s going to be exciting to see the changes that the new digital age will bring for those who want to make a living as an artist.
A few notable predictions for 2007 have come in from such sources as Hypebot, check it out, who predicts that “more artists at all levels and in all genres will go D.I.Y. and direct to the fans and the cottage industry to facilitate this transition will boom.” Also predictions from blog crooner Rags Gupta seem to all point in a similar direction.
But so far the most insightful prophet seems to be the ever outspoken industry amplifier Bob Lefsetz, who wrote “The Internet revolution has brought the public closer together. People have contact with more human beings than at any time in history…your BUDS are more important to you than your records, or the movies, or TV.” He further went to prophesize the founding principle of theInspirit program by exclaiming “The Net is all about distribution. Before everyone logged on, information was controlled by a very few, and it only went one way. The big media powers were IN CONTROL! They’re not in control any longer.”
Mr. Lefsetz’s 2007 Predictions makes some pretty bold statements, but in the days before the meteor hits…who has time to sugarcoat things?

The Internet is quickly paving the way for artistic revolution, giving new arms for artists to reach art enthusiasts, collectors and appreciators across the globe. I am reminded of the words of musician and activist Jello Biafra when he suggested that we âbecome the mediaâ. Artists of all stripes now have the opportunity to do exactly this with the availability of platforms such as TalentDatabase.com. The art revolution for the Internet age is just beginning, and accessibility is no longer in the hands of an elite few. This is a visionary approach that will create unparalleled exposure for artists and a more eclectic and authentic palette for viewers and lovers of art. This is not just social networking. This is activism for art. I look forward to more!
